The roleOur client is looking to find an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to join their Cheshire based team. This is a permanent position with a focus on developing and managing their IT infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the operational status of the IT infrastructure whilst establishing and implementing continuous improvements
- Lead and manage delivery of sanctioned projects in a cost effective manner, working with the team of IT resources (both internal and external)
- Manage systems upgrades and improvement plans (internally and externally supported) by developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements for hardware and software
- Identify and develop IT infrastructure improvements / projects in line with business requirements
- Develop and ensure that technical skills, competencies and experiences match their current and future needs
- Manage the relationships with third party suppliers involved in the delivery of improvement plans /projects
- Act as 3rd line support offering a point of reference and extended support for the IT Service Desk and Business Systems organisation
Necessary Experience
- Managed and supported complex multi-platform infrastructure systems
- A proven track record in the diagnosis and resolution of complex technical problems
- Can develop and maintain high quality documentation.
- Management of incidents, problems, changes and releases as required.
- Provide monitoring, optimisation, tuning, capacity planning, testing and maintenance of designated services.
- A solid understanding of data backup and recovery with some experience of providing IT business continuity and disaster recovery services.
Technology:
- Microsoft Windows Server operating systems (2003 - 2012), AD, GPO, DHCP, DNS and IIS including design, installation, configuration, support, system administration, and architecture experience
- A proven background in the installation, configuration and support of :
o VMware ESX based server virtualisation solutions (Vmware 5.5)
o Citrix 4.5/6/5 solutions
- An excellent working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting including DNS, Active Directory, routing, and IP port allocation
- Knowledge of Network technologies (LAN) troubleshooting including switches and connections
- Storage and SAN experience (ideally NetApp)
- Use of network monitoring, load balancing and server high availability techniques.
- Good understanding of security best practices
- Good familiarity with the ITIL framework, particularly change control.

- Scripting technologies
- Backup Exec experience
- Wireless networking experience
- Automated Deployment
- SCCM & SCOM
